Opens on Monday, July 15th and runs until mid-August.
From
Monday 15 July, eight artists will display their original work in an
assigned window of Brown Thomas.
Curated
by artist, Angela O’ Kelly, Art and Style is a thoughtfully curated exposition
that captures the excitement of the contemporary arts scene in Ireland. The
chosen artists represent the mediums of print, paint, hand craftsmanship and
contemporary surface design. Each Brown Thomas store in Dublin, Cork, Limerick
and Galway as well as BT2 Grafton Street and Dundrum will host a unique
exhibition as part of the Art & Style programme.
The
artists featuring in Art & Style at Brown Thomas Dublin include:
Caroline
Schofield who’s work explores the fragility of human life and the creativity
that flows from the acceptance of the process while Nigel Cheney’s revisits the
symbolic cliché of “hearts and flowers” by using the imagery of heart shaped
children’s grave plaques observed in French cemeteries.
Melanie
Spendlove specializes in contemporary surface design with visual exploration
and Helen O’Malley highlights the expansion of the ceramic discipline, drawing
attention to the extended possibilities of the contemporary clay medium.
Liz
Nilson practices involve different textile based applications, with screen printing being the one that is always visible in her work. Rachel White
displays a love for colour, surface, material and finish which leads to much
intrigue by the themes of order followed by subsequent disorder.
Dr.
Helen McAllister draws most inspiration from the concepts, techniques and
motifs of Venetian 16th century textile and shoes while Kate Quinlan focuses on
the instability of the family throughout her work.
